GMAT语法问题,关于冒号的
On January 1,2000,the national mood was completely different from what it would become just a fewyears later:at the turn of the century,given a seemingly unstoppable stockmarket and a seemingly peaceful world,the country was content.
这句话,冒号后面的内容究竟是在修饰2000年的还是几年以后的national mood呢?我觉得是2000年的,但是冒号后面的内容不是应该修饰冒号前面的,即what那个从句代表的吗

我认为不是几年以后,而是2000年,因为在冒号后面,1）马上接了一句 “ at the turn of the century" (在世纪的转折点）.2）冒号之前描写的也是2000年的一月一日,这句话的意思是,”在2000年的一月一日,national mood 和几年以后是完全不一样的：在世纪的转折点,因为一个看上去不可阻挡的股市和一个看上去和平的世界,国家（指这个国家的人民）感到满足.
