On May 23,the Beijing Olympics torch relay came to Shanghai for an exciting two-day run through the city.
Running in a sea of red
A big crowd gathered early at the Shanghai Museum for a ceremony to start the torch relay.It began with a minute of silence to remember the Sichuan earthquake victims.Then former Olympic swimming gold medallist (前奥运金牌得主),Zhuang Yong (庄泳),became the first torchbearer.She was greeted by a sea of red on the streets,from the red national flags in people’s hands to the red“Love China”logos on their faces and T-shirts.

Among the 416 torchbearers were four who had been or would soon go to Sichuan to help in the relief (救援) effort.
Liao Changyong (廖昌永),a famous singer from Sichuan Province,was also a torchbearer.He said that he believed his hometown would regain its beauty.
