The best known quality of the British is "reserve"(内向,矜持).A reserved person does not talk very much to strangers (陌生人)or show their feelings. You may work with him for years without even knowing where he lives and how many children he has. If they are on a train with a stranger they may travel many miles without starting a conversation. If a conversation does start questions like "How old are you?" or even "What is your name?" are not easily asked. He may give an answer like "I'm not bad" or "Well I'm very fond of tennis". The English sense of humour is also well known. "He has no sense of humour" is often heard inEngland. A sense of humour is an attitude (态度)to life. They have the ability to laugh at themselves when they fail or make mistakes. But they do not laugh at disabled or unlucky persons.  Finally sportsmanship (体育精神)is also an important quality of the British.
