The Chinese build it for a few reasons.     First，the Changjiang River floods large areas at the same time every year. The flood destroys many houses and crops and some people even lose their lives. The new dam will control the waters and it can produce electricity. As a result of the dam the water level of the new lake will rise more than 100 meters. A few ancient towns will be moved. So millions of people have to move from the places where they are living.     What's more a lot of places of interest in the area of the Three Gorges will be covered by the water of the new lake.
