Many people are pursuing happiness, however they have their own understanding of happiness, and ways to get it. I think that instead of success or elimination of appetite, an optimistic mind is the key to happiness.

There are many successful people in the world, however not all of them are happy. For example, as a good leader as Steve Jobs is, all news about him talk about how he operated the Apple, how he dealt with competitions with Samsung and Google, and how he refused to recognize his father and children. There is never any saying that he lived happily. Therefore, success doesn't always result in happiness.

Some people argue that sadness comes from appetite. However when you get rid of sadness by having no appetite, you also refuse all happiness. For example, the monks never cry, however they seldom laugh, either. The inner peace they have is also against happiness.

An optimistic attitude, however, can lead us to happiness. It is very likely that we meet a lot of happy and sad things. Nevertheless, an optimistic person will always have hope in life and never give up. Effect of all bad things they meet will be shrinked, while all happiness will be enlarged. For example, when they fail in something, they won't lose their heart as they know there is still hope in the future and no failure is intolerable. On the contrary, when they have success, or hear a joke, they will be very happy. In this way, happiness will dominate their life. Thus optimistic mind will lead to happiness.

In summary, it is the optimistic attitude instead of other things like success or elimination of appetite that can lead to happiness.
