Issue:Although many people think that the luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life are entirely harmless,in fact,they actually prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals.
It was pointed out by a socialist wag that the modern facilities provided humans with more independence.Ever since the Industrial Revolution,people have benefited from the continuously new inventions.Automobile,for instance,(a)serves to enhance independence in transportation and residence and (b)makes it possible for people to travel to isolated areas without suffering the stuffiness of public transportation.The luxuries and conveniences provided by the progressions of the society do give public some benefits and freedom.However,some contemporaries began to question the freedom of such luxurious life.
The benefits of the luxuries and conveniences,computers and cars,are quite ambiguous.The internet makes our earth like a village in a web of information and telephone lines.Furthermore,cars make people all over the world travel more freely.What a luxury life!How convenient it is!However,when we look back upon what had happened,we will find that:(a)the internet drives us to be front of the screen of computer from chatting with people and reading newspaper directly; (b)the automobile takes the parts of our feet’s function; (c)the television sells us instant gratification and diverts us only to divert,to make time pass without pain.Those phenomenon make us rethink what the modern life really should be.The modern life makes us more reliable on the technologic facilities not on ourselves.Perhaps,someday,we can’t find out messages in the pieces of newspapers out of computers and can’t walk any more out of cars.What a pity!
I’m not a Luddite,but I do believe that it is more important for us to try to get a balance between the luxuries and conveniences of the contemporary life (the modern,technologic facilities) and the abilities of ourselves.As far as I know,modern life should help to build up our body,to refine our characters and to make us independent and stronger in the environment.Just as “Two sides of the same coin”,our human beings should make best use of the contemporary life to really improve ourselves but not to be reliable on those equipments.
