5.2.5 Power supplies to Fire Pumps Installation
The nominal voltage of the supply to the fire pumps shall be 400 V at a frequency or 50
Hz.
The electric Fire pump shall be provided with an independent / dedicated supply from
the sub station.
Power supply and wiring systems serving fire pump installations shall be designed and
constructed to ensure,so far as is reasonably practicable,the dependability of
operations of the fire pumps installation with particular reference to security in the event
of fire anywhere in the area served by the fire fighting installation and areas adjacent
thereto.The risk of failure due to fire associated with or in locations adjacent to
components of the electrical supply system serving the fire pumps shall be minimised by
the application of appropriate design and construction techniques.
Power supply cables serving fire pump installations shall be protected to the maximum
extent possible.Cables shall enter the Pumphouse through designated routes as close
as practicable to the pump controller(s) or associated switchgear.Cables serving the
individual pump motors shall be protected from mechanical damage.Cables shall be
sized to ensure that the following criteria are all met:
• Cables have a manufacturer's continuous current carrying capability not less than
125% of the total full load running current of all connected loads.
• Voltages at motor terminals will not drop more than 5% below the nominal motor
supply voltages when pumps are being driven at rated output,pressure and speed
and all other connected loads are draining their peak demand.
• Voltages at the input terminals of the motor controller will not drop more than 15%
below the nominal motor supply voltages when the motors fed by the cables are
being started.
• Power supply systems serving fire pump installations shall be designed and
constructed to ensure that the voltages at the motor terminals shall not exceed
110% of the motor rated voltage at any time.
