The world of a little baby is very small. A baby does not know much. His world is very limited(有限). But as the baby grows, he learns more. First he discovers his room. Then he learns to know his house. Soon he goes to school. His world becomes larger all the time. He learns about his neighborhood, his country, and the whole world.
When man was young, be did not know much, either. His world was small. In later years his world became larger. It became a country and then a continent(洲). Soon even the continent became too small. Man started to explore the sea. Beyond the sea he found other continents. Above the continents, was the sky. He explored that, too. Finally man learned so much about the sky that he began to use it. He learned to fly from one continent to another. At last the whole earth was man’s world.
In the days of the sailing ships, the earth seemed huge. It would take people three months to sail from Europe to America. Today man can fly around the world in an airplane in less than two days. The huge earth is becoming too small to be man’s whole world.
