在大学英语上看到个句子:Smith`s barn was burt down,but they saved what cattle there were in the barn.what cattle there were怎么分析?那个what cattle是不是后面there were的主语?那为什么不直接说what there were?
还有后半句怎么翻译？同位语。这肯定不对吧。我知道there be表存在有have表拥有啦。但这个句子我觉得肯定不是用这个来解释的啦。谁再给更点有逻辑的解释。

there were 和实义动词HAVE的区别是,前者表“存在”,(什么地方有什么）后者表“所有”和（什么东西在什么地方）
所以在解释上可以这样what cattle there were in the barn.=what cattle Smith had in the barn.
