According to the Japan Student ServicesOrganization (JSSO,2013),there were about 135,519 international students inJapan.And about 60% international students came from China.The present studyset out to examine whether time perspective and self-identity is effect to cross-culturaladjustment.Participants were 271 Chinese international students of Japaneselanguage school in Tokyo.They completed a questionnaire containing Time PerspectiveScale (TPS; Tsuzuki,1996),Identity Status Scale (ISS; Kato,1983),Cross-CulturalAdjustment Scale (CAS; Liang,2011),residence time in Japan and the language levelof Japanese.Compared short residence international students with long residenceinternational students,long residence students have low scores ofcross-capture adjustment.Results of two-way ANOVA indicated the following:(1) highlevel of time perspective scores students show good cross-culture adjustment,(2) highlevel of identity scores students show good cross-culture adjustment,(3) languagelevel could not find any significant effect at cross-culture adjustment.Resultssuggest that time perspective and identity are important factors forcross-cultural adjustment,that means individual factors could affectcross-cultural adjustment,and in the future a longitudinal study aboutinternational students’ time perspective change,identity formation andcross-cultural adjustment are suggested.
