古巴老渔夫桑地亚哥在连续84天没捕到鱼的情况下,终于独自钓上了一条庞大的马林鱼,但这鱼和老人经过两天两夜的拉锯战,才被杀死绑在船边.但是老人在归程中还一再遭到鲨鱼的袭击,最后回港时只剩下鱼骨头.老人,最后不是失败了吗?
不.虽然他最后只拥有了一具光秃秃的骨头,但是他没有向大海,向大马林鱼,更没有向鲨鱼妥协和投降.所以说,他是一个“打不败的失败者” .
