The afro American short story "the poker party" refers to the experience of a 12-year-old boy who has observed his parents playing poker in a night.
The boy cannot go out during the whole weekend because of the permanent rainy wether,so he often sits in his room and dreams lots of things out imaginatively ,such like he becomes an Indian and playing around on a meadow in the free nature.
Once he is awake in the night and hears sounds coming from the kitchen.He is aware that the poker party has begun,but he has no idea what exactly poker is,he just knows,that his father is enjoying himself with a lot of friends by playing cards.Today,he decides to have a look at what over there is happening.In the kitchen he finds a lot of relatives,amoung them aunt Jane and oncle Tim,the latter is dealing cards.His father lets him staying a while and for having a look at this occasion.After the father has won a big round,he becomes cheerfuly and notices that his son has brought him luck.But a few minutes later,oncle Tim actually misdeals the cards,but they still go on playing,because everyone except the father insist on it.It is against fathers principles,so he gets a bit angry.His anger grows when oncle Tim wins with a perfect combination of cards.So he let his anger run wild.With the guests gone,father sits alone in the kitchen and can hardly calm down.
