On 10 November 1951,a man called Sir Hugh Beaver argued with some friends in Ireland.‘Which is the fastest bird in Europe?'they asked.They could not agree on the answer.That evening,Sir Beaver and his friends looked for the answer in many reference books.It was impossible to find.

The first Guinness Book of Records was published on 27 August 1955 and was very popular.The following year,the book was published in the USA,and it sold 70,000 copies.
All over the world people are very interested in the Guinness World Records.Many people try to make new records.Suresh Joachim from canada successfully made over twenty world recolds.These include the longest time standing on one foot(76 hours 41minutes)and the furthest distance travelled by escalators(225.44km).He makes new world recolds to raise money for poor childen.
