This article lists cultural differences caused listening comprehension obstacles which proved the necessity of cultural introduction in College English listening teaching.We understand that students in listening comprehension have many obstacles.The reasons are many,such as basic knowledge of the language is weak,poor listening skills,the lack of understanding of English cultural background knowledge.And Individual psychological factors,such as student confidence,interest and so on.In the past the teaching of English listening,teachers and students can fully understand the importance of the previous two points,to master the basic knowledge of language and listening skills training very seriously.However,in Listening Comprehension,cultural background knowledge is an important factor to restricted students improved their listening.Some students have spent a lot of effort to improve the basic knowledge and listening skills,however,they often can not understand nor will it fall into the predicament to go.
Language is an important tool with which people communicate with each other.“People use languages to exchange thoughts,information so that they can understand each other well.”(Sapir 2004) And listening is the first important step in language communication.It is the key way for people to understand what they say.
Language teaching as an integral part of the listening should go beyond teaching listening skills training,attention to culture in the listening process guidance.Only pay attention to cultural introduction can really help students improve their listening comprehension.
The cultural introduction is the prerequisite and basis for listening comprehension in college English Listening Teaching.It is not only allow students to understand differences between different culture ,and also can improve listening comprehension on this basis and effectively promote listening teaching.
