On each Christmas night, our whole family get together and enjoy a visit from Santa himself. The Christmas of 1988,my youngest son,Matthew, was two. When Santa arrived,Matthew sat on Santa's lap for the rest of the evening. We took many pictures with them. None of us knew how precious those photos for Santa and Matthew. Five days after Christmas,Matthew died in an accident at home. When the next Christmas was coming,it was hard for me to enjoy the holiday spirit. On December 13th,something special happened to raise our spirits.
We were just finishing dinner when we heard a knock on the front door. When we went to answer it,no one was there. However, there was a card and gift. We opened the card and read that the giftgiver wanted to remain anonymous;_he or she just wanted to help us get through a hard time by cheering us up. In the gift bag was a cassette of favourite Christmas music. We thought that it was a very clever gift, and it touched our hearts. We listened to the songs one by one,and the spirit of Christmas began to warm our hearts. Then we received one gift for each day until Christmas. We were interested in what would possibly come next.
Each year since then,as we decorate our Christmas tree,we place on it the gifts we received that Christmas. We never found out who it was.
