答案和解析
RHONDA ROWLAND,CNN MEDICAL CORRESPONDENT
Sanjay, each year in the United States, there are about 4,000 drownings. These deaths can occur in public pools like this, home pools,on lakes. To help talk to us about how to stay safe around water,we’re joined by the American Red Cross’s Sean Penn. This is the Sean Penn who saves lives.
SEAN PENN,AMERICAN RED CROSS
That’s what we’re here for, that’s what we try to do.
ROWLAND
First of all,Sean, how can you tell if somebody’s in danger in the water?
PENN
You’re going to recognize a victim that’s not making any forward progress. They may be flailing1 their arms, but they’re not moving forward in the water.Or they may just quietly slip2 below the surface,or be floating on the surface face down and not moving. One of those three things is a good sign that they may be in trouble.
ROWLAND
Your first tendency may be to jump3 in after them. What should you do?
PENN Well
Well, your first tendency should be to reach something out4 to them.Reach your hand out.Or you may have a pole like this one.
ROWLAND
Like what Sherena (ph) has here at poolside?
PENN
That’s right. With a net on it,or maybe just the other end, hand them the pole, and pull them to the side.If they’re conscious and active, talk to them, and tell them to pull it on in.You may have a ring buoy at a home pool. This is going to extend your reach beyond the length of the pole; it’s something that they can hang on to5 and float with until you can pull them back to safety.
ROWLAND
OK.So,reach,throw...
PENN
And finally go.If you have to,that’s your last choice.Lifeguards are trained to go in the water, but you may not be.Take something with you and extend it to them, bring that and the victim back to the side. But always make that your last choice.
ROWLAND
How do you know when you should administer CPR6?
PENN
Once you get them out of the water, check them for consciousness. With a tap and a shout, hey, are you OK?If you don’t get a response, then designate7someone,you,go call 911 or the local emergency number. Then go on and open the victim’s airway8 and look, listen and feel. You want to
look to9 see if you see the chest rise, feel breath, and hear anything for about five seconds.
Then give the victim two breaths. You want to look to see if the chest rises. Then continue to check for signs of circulation10.You’re checking the pulse now and you’re checking to see if you hear any breathing,or see anything. If you don’t get a pulse, and you don’t feel any breathing, then you would start CPR.
You find your hand position by coming up to the notch11 of the ribcage12,place your hand just above it and do 15 compressions.One,two,three,four,five,six,seven,eight,nine,10,11,12,13,14,15.Then give the victim two breaths. And you would continue that for about a minute. At the end of a minute, you re-check for signs of circulation.
ROWLAND
All right.With an adult,it’s 15 compressions,two pops.What about for children?
PENN
For children,it’s five compressions and one breath.
ROWLAND
OK,great,Sean Penn with the American Red Cross.
And also,Sanjay,remember,never swim alone,always take along a buddy13 .
