这道题看上去应该选择D项的,但是有同事说选B项,说the more后面的比较级可以是其后的主语,宾语,状语的比较形式,这个比较级后面剩下的部分即是这句多余的部分,也就是说比较级后并非总是“主+谓”形式.请高手明确,

都什么乱七八糟的!楼上几位都被考试考成书呆子了.B是正确的Chinglish.
其实并列比较级的句子判断对错非常简单.记住第一句是因,第二句是果.所以判断对错的时候,只要把句首的定冠词去掉,换上if.then,再把比较级的形容词或副词插回到句子里正确的位置.如果有省略的谓语,再把谓语加回去.这句话如果选B,转换后的句子就是：
If the standard of living is higher and the national wealth is greater,then greater amount of paper is used.
这是正确的.如果选D,那么第二句多出来的第二个the就有麻烦了.转换后的句子是：
If the standard of living is higher and the national wealth is greater,then the greater amount of paper is used.
这是错的.比较级是不能有定冠词的.
其实楼主的语感非常好.这道题如果美国人做,恐怕也会有一多半的人答D.这是因为出题的人从来不讲英语,搞出了个语法对但是语感错的答案.英语里当greater用在并列比较级句子时,基本上都是用the greater the amount of.这就是约定俗成,没什么道理.B虽然语法上是对的,但是没人这么说.真正地道的英文是：
The higher the standard of living and the greater the national wealth,the greater the amount of paper used.
另：我在网上找了一下这道题的出处.发现原始出处在这里：
正如我说的,B也是错的.正确答案是the greater the amount of paper used.这道题被抄到中国,抄的人自作聪明,把错答案当成了对答案,闹出了个chinglish的笑话.
