It's not very difficult to understand that the two chemical materials you mentioned have vital difference in the chemical bond ,which connected the two elements together.Mostly,the chemical bond determines what form a material should be.Normaly,there are two kinds of chemical bond:ironic bond and electrovalent bond.Because lithium oxide is structured by electrovalent bond,it has a high melting point.
