He is a Chinese 110 meterhurdler.He is one of China's most commercially successful athletes and has emerged as a cultural icon.He won a gold medal at the Athens Olympics.I think everyone knows his name by now.He is Liu Xiang!
Liu Xiang became famous after winning a gold medal in male 110 meterhudler during the Athens Olympics in 2004.He completed the drill for only 12.91 seconds!This was a new Olympic record and was almost three tenths of a second faster than the runner-up Terrence Trammell.This gold medal doesn't only bring pride to China,but also it defied the traditional thinking that Asian athletes could not compete in sprint events at the top level.Liu Xiang proved to everyone that Asians can run fast indeed.
After becoming a super star,Liu Xiang was on Time magazine Asian edition's cover of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.He also donated approximately 2,500,000 yuan to 2008 Sichuan Earthquake relief efforts.Due to the busy schedule and hard training,Liu Xiang admits that he has no time for a romantic relationship.
Although he didn't win a medal in the later Olympics,he was once set a world record and brought pride to China.I appreciate his hardwork and admire this spirit.
