这句话however是插入成分,你看however后面出现了动词may create,这就是整个句子的谓语,所以however前面的一句话作主语,是主语从句,（如果是谓语后面有一句话,这个谓语动词还是及物动词的话一般就是宾语从句喽）.what作连接代词,在这个主语从句里面,what是做主语的,可以直译为所.的,或者.的东西,这句话翻译就是：对于某一群体生物来说的灾难,反而可能会对另一群体创造出机会.
what作主语从句的引导词有以下例子：
What you did is totally wrong.你所做的是完全错误的.（what作主语从句的宾语）
