thousands of 英语中通常用名词的复数形式表示“数...”或者这个复数上面的数字“成...上...”,所以我们常将“thousands of ”翻译成"数千个"或“成千上万”,同理,“hundreds of"表示“数百个”或“成百上千个”.而one thousand 则只能表示“一千个”.
other表示“其他的,别的,另外的”意思,e.g.there are other ways of solving problems.有其它的方法来解决问题.There are three other people in the room.房间里（还）另有三人.Do you have any other book?你还有别的书吗?other 还用于固定结构中,如：at other times平时,each other相互,every other...每隔一个...eg.every other week,每隔一周,every other two weeks,每隔两周.the other,一般用于两者之间,一个...另一个...由于前有定冠词,表示说话者和听者双方均知道的.i have two sisters.One is a nurse; the other is a doctor.也有固定用法：the other day,前天.还有一个是some...others...的句型中.表示一些.另一些.e.g.Many students are working.Some are cleaning the classroom,others are sweeping the floor.
another 表示另一个或另一些,前面说过两者中我们用one...the other...结构,但是超过两个以上而且不能确定数字时,用one...,another...,still another 结构.
other 和another也用通用的时候.
