不明白为什么写成did learning？did的话老师讲对应动词过去式啊，怎么会是learning呢?为什么用did？

did是过去式，也就是说这句话的意境就是过去的动作和状态。与后面的gave相对应。
learing another language就是做了主语。用动词的ing形式作主语。就像是shopping is my favorite activity一样 做的是主语
did是助动词 前置了 就像是 does he like this movie?
如果没有did 那么 teach就变成taught 而还是与后面的gave 相对应
