Stop The Bus
The outgoing Olympic organisers did a wonderful job with colour,pageantry,silver-clad abseilers and aerial trapeze artists.Athletes danced and cheered,and the IOC president declared the games "exceptional".
And London had ...the bus.
Seriously.What were they thinking?
From the moment the thing lumbered on to the arena,there were sniggers from the assembled audience (in the ABC's hotel foyer at least).And who's that waiting for them at the bus stop?Why,it's a group of street theatre performers!But wait -- what's that coming of the top of the bus?It's Jimmy Page!And he's forgotten to plug his guitar in!
We should have known something a bit dodgy was afoot.London Mayor Boris Johnson's unbuttoned jacket hinted at a slightly cavalier attitude.
But the bus.I hate chuckle to think what the British papers are going to have on their front pages overnight.
You'd have to wonder whether the organisers of the London Games are really that happy with the three million quid they allegedly spent.
Maybe they are.At least the money spent flying in David Beckham seems to have value for money.
His closing ceremony performance has given us all a rather tasty metaphor for the entire Beijing Games experience:kicking a football into the crowd - and having it intercepted by a walkie-talkie wearing security guard.
