Spring festival
Spting festival is the most important hoilday in China.It is also known as the Chinese New Year.To the Chinese people it is as important as Chrismas to people in the West.The date for this hoilday are determined by the lunar calendar.So the timing of the hoilday varies from late January to early February.The coming Spring Festival is on the first,February.
To most Chinese,the festival begins on the eve of the lunar New Year’s Day and ends on the fifteenth day of the first month of the lunar calender.
Many Chinese begin to prepare for the New Year in the last few days of the last lunar month.They clean their houses,cut their hair,and buy new clothes.They decorate their house with paper scrolls.To celebrate Spring Festival,the Chinese people would say “Guo nian”.It means “passing the year”.People use it to greet the New Year.At midnight at the turn of the old and new year,people often let off fire-crackers.They want to say goodbye to the old year and greet the arrival of the new year.On New Year’s Even,all the members of families come together for a very big dinner.Almost all Chinese people willeat Jiaozzi,the steamed dumpling,in Spring Fesrival.
