Smoking is a bad habit. It can harm your health and the health of others. Smoking can harm your health. Cigarette is a poison. There are over 350000 deaths each year that are directly related to smoking. This is more than the total number of American lives lost in World War I, Korea and Vietnam combined. Experts point out: A cigarette can kill a small white mouse, 20 cigarettes can poison an ox. A cigarette contains about 4000 chemicals, many of which are poisonous. Some of the worst ones are below. Nicotine, a deadly poison; Arsenic, used in rat poison; Methane, a component of rocket fuel; Ammonia, found in floor cleaner; Cadmium, used in batteries; Carbon Monoxide, part of car exhaust; Formaldehyde, used to preserve body tissue to beep in perfect condition; Butane, lighter fluid; Hydrogen Cyanide, the poison used in gas chambers. Every time you inhale smoke from a cigarette, small amounts of these chemicals get into your blood through your lungs. They travel to all parts of your body and cause harm. “Your chance of developing lung cancer is increased 11 times if you smoke. Smoking increases the risk of developing chronic lung disease by 30 times. Children of smokers get more colds and have a 70% greater chance of being hospitalized for respiratory conditions than children of nonsmokers. ” Smoking can cause many diseases: cancer, heart disease, apoplexy, tracheitis, emphysema and so forth. TV says: A cigarette cost one’s 2 minutes life. Russian scientists state: Smokers’ average lifetime are 20 years shorter than nonsmokers.
