Evita Peron
Eva Maria Duarte was born in May of 1919 in Argentina.She grew up very poor with five brothers and sisters,a mother,and no father.They all lived in a one-room shack.Eva's mother did not send her to school,but made her work in kitchens of rich families.
Eva moved to Buenos Aires when she was 16 to become an actress and she made a few films and worked in radio.She was belittled by the top actress then coz she tried to put on the toes of her.So she had quarrelsome with her.In 1945,Eva met the minister of War,Juan Peron.They were married in a year and she helped him run for the presidency in 1946.They won.Juan was a rich man with status and everybody thought that like other affairs this affair will also vanish in the air.But on the contrary the affair turned into a life long relation.She was his second wife.And Eva became -- the First Lady Of Argentina.
Evita did not spare her foes after she got the power and she made that actress's life difficult.Anybody who used to be in her contact was punished.In fact she was not even called to her family functions.Later she fled away from that country.
There are many such incidences when the so called high class people tried to deprecate her.The oldest charity of the rich women in that country was having the rule that it will be lead by the first lady but she was not called to join the group.The result of this was that she cut all of their government funds,shut them down,and started her own Foundation.
Eva started her own foundation that built hundreds of schools and hospitals in Argentina.Eva was an advocate for the education of women.She also helped the poor workers of Argentina gain a voice and respect in the country that previously exploited them.
Although Evita was the wife of the President,she was considered by many to be a politician.There had never been a female politician in Argentina before.And though she wanted to be the vice president of the country she could never do this coz the army was not ready to take orders from a woman.She legalised voting for women in the country.This definitely uplifted the status of women in the country.
She embraced her poverty-striken past and reached out to the descamisados (the shirtless ones).During her husband's term she did all she could for them.She used to hug people even when they were suffering from diseases.
In spite of the fact that she never officially held any government post,she performed as Minister of Health and Labor because of her own persistance.Her mammoth wage increases for her beloved descamisados resulted in overwhelming political support for her husband.
Evita had a short-lived political life.She was active for four years of her husband's term but was diagnosed with cancer in 1950,and died in July of 1951.Later on the order of Juan,her body was preserved by the doctor and it took him 1 year to do this.He wanted to establish her name and for this sake he planned to built a pillar in her memory.
As she died Peron's empire declined and soon he had to flee away from the country leaving Eva's coffin,when the opposition took over the presidency.The new ruling party feared arosing public sentiments for Evita so they smuggled her body to France and buried her with a different name.
After 10 years when Peron came back,he was married to his third wife who became the vice-president which Eva always wanted to be.Peron searched for Eva's coffin and later found him.when she was taken out of that place her body was safe and seemed to be same as she was 10 years back.It was a magic for the common people and they started worshipping their Goddess Of Love - Eva.Then she was buried with some of the most prestigious and honoured people of the country where even the riches were not allowed.
Evita's story can teach us all that it is possible to defy fate.She was born into the lowest rung of rural life and climbed the ladder to become the most powerful woman in the country.She did this at a time when the place of the woman was in the home,not behind a desk.There is a city in Argentina which was built by Evita only for the poor people who are now well settled and self sufficient,with the name "Evita's city".
Even after her death Evita remains loved by many in Argentina.
