Dear Elva:

How are things going? What a surprise it is to hear that you’ll develop an optional course next term! Therefore our school is seeking suggestions from us students.

As far as I’m concerned most classmates really expect you to offer Selected British and American Newspaper Readings. The reasons are as follows: Firstly it enables us to know current affairs in the world very well through which we can keep pace with the times. Secondly we can improve reading comprehension as well as enlarge vocabulary. Thirdly reading various articles written by native speakers provides us ready access to rich fresh and practical language which should further arouse our passion for English. In addition we will learn what we can’t learn from the textbooks such as different cultures and customs. In this way it will help to broaden our horizon and open our views. All in all we will certainly benefit from it greatly whatever course it is.
