Dear Bruce,
How is everything? In your last letter you asked about what changes have taken place in our city. Now I’ll tell you one. By the end of September,2012, more than 1,000 road signs, which used to appear in Chinese characters with Chinese Pinyin, had been replaced by bilingual ones, standing up along the main roads and the hot tourist attractions in our city.
In the past, with the road signs in Chinese only, many foreigners didn’t know Chinese well and lost their way frequently in our city. As more and more foreigners have come to our city, the city government has changed the words in those signs into both Chinese and English. The efforts will make it more convenient for foreigners to travel, live or study here. Meanwhile, the efforts can help the city develop much better and faster.
Next time you are in our city, you’ll have no difficulty getting around in it.
