A five-story,blood-red water fall in Antarctica contains what may be the best evidence yet that life in the extreme conditions of other planets and moons may indeed be possible.
When originally discovered in 1911,the red color of the water gushing from Taylor Glacier,in Antarctica,was thought to be the result of algae.Iron is actually the culprit.But life was found,and this was very surprising due to the falls' origin.
New research has found the falls emanate from a sub-glacial lake which was sealed for 2 million years,and contains,not algae,but microbes that have lived for millennia without heat,light or oxygen in the briny,sea-like water.
