It doesn't matter much what he takes in high school as long as he can achieve the best grade possible, really, and be sure to include one of the level 3 literature subject such as english, history, art history(and maybe geography,I'm not too sure about that one)and one science or maths subjects such as calculus, statistics, physics, chemistry etc.these are just the minimum requirements.I'm sure he needn't to worry about the minimum entrance requirements for AU but just reminder that he needs "n" credits in level 2 English and "n" credits in level 1 maths.
Apart from that,he also needs to provide a portfolio of his drawings. If he is absolutely certain that Architecture is what he wants to go for then he can start preparing now.About 10 pages(details need to check with the university because it might change)of drawings best laid out on A2 sized papers in a folder or somehow have the pages SAFELY bounded together```meaning no sharp edges etc```preferably his best works collected over time but should be recent.they like to see a range of media, that means use different methods to paint;draw, make(models)and pictures of his modeling.hope he understand what i mean by "media"here```just use as many ways to draw,as oppose to only show his pencil work, include colour as well as black and white.
It's not necessary for him to take an art subject or graphics in high school, but it might help him in his portfolio building.when I was applying, they take in best 120 applicants weighing 75% on level 3 grades(they take rank you by your best 80 credits or something))and 25% on your arty portfolio work.So it's curcial to get your GPA up there. At least that"s what they say. It's not too difficult I don't think.I've seen some very strange people getting into architecture so I don't suppose it's that hard.
Well that's all I remember from when I was applying, please don't quote me;things might have changed from when I was applying lol. It's safer to check in the undergraduate's handbook to be sure or visit the administration's department in level 6 office.
Best of luck and email me if he has any questions at all. Will be nice to see hime in the school of architecture some time in the near futrue
