I can often meet an old man in his 70s around where I live.He is neatly dressed and speaks the same dialect as me.He is crookbacked almost at an angle of 90 degrees,with a bag in one hand and I noticed him put some cans and bottles in his bag.But more often than not,I can meet him not far away from the bus stop nearby.He doesn’t ask for money publicly.However,he would tell passers-by that he needs the change to take a bus.
Being a beggar,he is in the first place a human being.He has to struggle for his dignity as hard as possible.To save his honor,he tries to find an excuse for his mendicancy though he is badly in need of money or he even hasn’t got the sum to pay his supper.He wears clean clothes to distinguish him from other vagrants.Even in such a situation,he still wants to win the personal respect.
The moment I realized his situation,I couldn’t help but show my sympathy for him.At first I would give him one yuan and then I would ask him if he wants any more change so as to pay for his fare back home.Of course,he would be glad to accept my offer.
