一、talk 是不及物动词, 相对 speak 而言表示随便谈,其名词亦为 talk,如：
Human beings can talk, but animals can't. 人会说话,而动物却不会.
They have been talking since two o'clock. 自从两点钟到现在他们一直在谈话.
二、say 是及物动词,表示“说”,可以跟直接引语或间接引语作为宾语,没有相应的名词,如：
He said nothing. 他什么话也没说.
"My friend is an engineer," he said. 他说：“我的朋友是位工程师.”
He said that his friend was an engineer. 他说他的朋友是位工程师.
三、tell 是及物动词,含有以下几个意思：
1. 把某事告诉某
Glancing at her scornfully, he told her that the dress was sold. 他轻蔑地看了她一眼,告诉她说那件衣服卖过了.
2. 给人以“指示”,即“叫某人做某事”
While we were waiting to land, the air-hostess told us to keep calm. 当我们等待着陆的时候,一位飞机乘务员叫我们保持镇静.
3. 讲述某件事
He has been able to tell us more about active volcanoes than any man alive. 他现在比任何人都能更多地向我们讲述有关活火山的.
四、speak. 通常用作不及物动词,也可以作及物动词.
1. 不及物动词,有“说话”的意思.在会议上正式发言用speak,其名词为speech,如：
I know of the man, but I've never spoken to him. 我知道这个人,不过从来没有和他说过话.
He spoke at the meeting. 他在会上发言了.
2. 在用作及物动词时,其宾语一般是语言或词语之类的词,如：
He speaks English very well. 他的英语说得很好.
He didn't speak a word. 他一句话也没说.
