civilization and advancement with its magnificent culture and various
inventions and creations; it has also produced important impact on the social
development of China.
Ever since the reform and opening up, in order to promote its own modernization
process, China has been
actively advocating the learning and absorbing of advanced scientific
technologies of various countries in the world including Britain. China has always attached great importance on
the status and role of Britain
in Europe and the world. Britain and China are both permanent members of
the UN Security Council; they bear heavy responsibility in the maintenance of
world peace and the promotion of mutual developments, and there exists extensive
mutual benefits between them. We should look upon the Sino-British relations
with a highly strategic perspective and a far-sighted view, and hope for more intercommunions,
