crocodile指“鳄鱼”,tear是“眼泪”,本俚语有字面直译是“鳄鱼的眼泪”.传说鳄鱼在大啖猎物时,会边吃边为自己吃掉的动物流泪,因此后人便用“鳄鱼的眼泪”比喻一个人“假惺惺、假慈悲”,相当于中国俗谚“猫哭耗子假慈悲”.
