做新视野大学英语课后习题时遇到几个句子改写,现将查到的答案写在下方：
1.The distance between them is not so great as to be unbridgeable.
2.The unity of the masses with the party is never so strong as it is now.
3.The punishment was harsh because Maggie would lose her position,but it was not so bad as losingher pay.
4.I've heard the terrible noise once or twice before,but never so loud as this one.

我的问题是,有没有别的改写方式?
如:
1.The distance between them is not so great as (it is)unbridgeable.
3.The punishment was harsh because Maggie would lose her position,but it was not so bad as to lose her pay.
另：第一句中so as 做什么成分?其他都是状语从句,但第一句有人说是定语从句,
第三句是不是只能用doing,因为要和前面逻辑上的losing her position相对照呢?
感谢palmaking的回答，我今天又想了想这个问题，有两点新的看法：
首先第一句还是不能用（it ls）enbridgeable，因为这一句不像其他表比较的状语从句而是结果状语，所以应该用so as to be的固定搭配表示如此以至于，就像too...too的用法。
而至于第三句，很高兴我们想的一样，不过今天朋友说这一句可以理解为省略了最后的was，也就是but it was not so bad as losing her pay (was)，我觉得倒有可能是更好的解释。您觉得呢？

对的,只能用doing,因为要和前面逻辑上的losing her position相对照.或者：
== The punishment was harsh because Maggie would lose her position,but it was not so bad as the possibility of losing her pay （动名词做定语）
=== The punishment was harsh because Maggie would lose her position,but it was not so bad as the possibility that she would lose her pay.（同位语从句）
3 it was not so bad as losing her pay (was )-----括号裏面的was加与不加已经没有什麼意义了.
4 我给你的方法已经是最简单的了.
5 The distance between them is not so great as (it is)unbridgeable.-------就像我早先说的,应该是--------.The distance between them is not so great as TO BE unbridgeable.或者：The distance between them is not so great that it would be unbridgeable.
