In the event there are two or more applications for the same string ( the combination of letters and characters that from the gtld) or confusingly similar strings, the so –called string contention procedures would come into effect. The string contention is a three-step procedure that begins with an automated system, which will determine whether applicants have submitted duplicate or very similar gtlds, based on algorithms. After that, a panel will take a closer look at the duplicate and decide if the strings proposed in two applications are so similar that they are in direct string contention
