I am a senior high student of grade 3. Recently, we had a debate about the use of web slang in textbooks when attending a programme organized by the 21st century English Newspaper. About seventy percent of us feel that web slangs should be introduced into textbooks. Their justification is that our textbooks should reflect the changes in the society by absorbing new vocabularies that are the product of the cultural change. Web slangs reflect the mentalities and attitudes of the youth and the teaching of web slangs will help them keep up with their peers. However, 30 percent of us disagree.
